Written by Tribe Bikes co-founder, Steve Bull, Curious Casey’s Cargo Bike Caper is a book for cargo bike loving kids aged 3-8, or the cargo bike loving young at heart!
Below we ask Steve what inspired him to write Curious Casey’s Cargo Bike Caper.
We talk to the author
Steve, what inspired you to write a book about a cargo bike loving kid!
My kids and I love adventuring on our cargo bike, and we have a book shelf full of kids books on a range of different topics. When I went to buy a Christmas Gift for my kids, a book about cargo biking kids, I could not find one! I’ve always wanted to write my own book so thought what a great topic to write a book about!
Can you tell us a bit about the book?
It’s about a kid named Casey (who could be a boy or girl depending on your intended audience), who rides their cargo bike around their local neighbourhood. Casey rides a 3 wheel trike bike, like a Tribe Original.
When Casey sees the pride and joy of the neighbourhood, the Golden Egg, has gone missing, they set out to solve the mystery. Casey meets a lot of people on their journey and uses their cargo bike to swiftly get around the neighbourhood.
The book ends with a story of forgiveness and a sense of community.

What were some of the challenges involved in writing the book?
The biggest challenge was my 7 year old editor. I would share drafts with him and his feedback on early drafts was brutally honest! Back to the drawing board, I eventually came up with a draft that he was happy with!
I really wanted to make the book one that a parent could read to younger kids as well as be a early reader for young kids. By having my 7 year old (year 1) read the drafts I was able to come up with a story that was interesting to that audience without overwhelming them with big words or long sentences.
That brings us to our next question, what age is the intended audience?
I think all cargo bike loving kids will get something out of this story. My 4 year old loves it being read to her, my 7 year old enjoys reading it himself. I’d say 3-8 is the right age bracket.
We love the illustrations, can you tell us a bit more about that?
I found an illustrator named Adam Riong, I really liked his work, which varied across a number of different styles. I gave him a very loose brief and a picture of a Tribe Original and he absolutely nailed it, as well as improved on some of my instructions. I’m stoked with how the illustrations came out!
That’s great. How can we buy a copy of Curious Casey’s Cargo Bike Caper?
It’s available as both Paperback and E-Book. You can buy the paperback version from our store or Amazon for $15.99. You can purchase the E-Book for $4.99 through Amazon, Apple Books or wherever you get your e-books!
