OUR STORY

by parents, for parents

Two lifetime mates, four young kids, and a problem every parent knows. Here's how Tribe Bikes came to be.

HOW IT STARTED

Getting out was harder than it should be

Lifetime mates, Nick and Steve had a problem. Each with 2 young kids in tow, getting around was so much harder these days. Whether it was negotiating on what we'd carry to the beach due to limited pram storage or carrying kids home who'd cracked it while out for walks. Going out in the car was just way more effort than it should be, before you consider the added stress of finding a park when you make it where you are going.

It all resulted in not getting out as much as they should, and for the family's sanity, things had to change.

THE LIGHTBULB

The perfect solution, at an imperfect price

One day, when out for a walk, Nick stumbled upon the perfect solution: a cargo bike. Quick to jump on Google, he was disappointed when he found electric cargo bikes in Australia were priced at well over $8,000.

This was in the late 2010s. Electric bikes were still a novelty here, nowhere near as common as they are today, and the few cargo bikes you could buy were priced to match.

“Our bikes have changed our lives… for the better. We hope they change yours too.”

TRIBE BIKES IS BORN

There had to be a better way

The boys knew there must be a better way. With Nick's career in retailing and importing, Steve's career in digital servicing, a combined love of bikes, some excited kids and supportive but skeptical wives, Tribe Bikes was born.

The following months saw bike designs refined until we found the bike that perfectly balanced quality, price and doing what families need.

HOW IT IS NOW

The cars mostly stay home

These days Nick and Steve leave their cars at home most weekends. Exploring happens by bike: the beach, the shops, the long way round, with the kids aboard and nobody negotiating about what fits in the pram.

The school run changed the most. There is no circling for a park, no waiting for the queue to move. You ride up to the door, the kids climb out, and you are already on your way home.
