Congratulations on your new Tribe Bike! When we launched Tribe Bikes we hoped that we’d get more families out and about turning every day errands into family adventures, and more. We’re stoked that you’ve joined our Tribe Family!
You’re probably excited to get out and about on your bike, but please take the time to read our getting started guide first. Your Tribe Bike is a little different to the bikes you’re probably used to, and to ensure your ride is as safe and fun as possible it’s important you read the below.
General Warning
This guide contains important safety, performance and service information. Read it before you take the first ride on your new bicycle, and bookmark it for reference.
Like all sports, cycling involves risk of injury. When you ride a bicycle, you assume responsibility for that risk. You must therefore practice safe and responsible riding and proper use and maintenance of your bicycle.
This user guide assumes you understand the road rules in Australia and will abide by these rules when riding your bicycle.
Because it is impossible to anticipate every situation or condition which can occur while riding, this Manual makes no representation about the safe use of the bicycle under all conditions. There are risks associated with the use of any bicycle which cannot be predicted or avoided, and which are the sole responsibility of the rider.
A note for parents and guardians
As a parent you are responsible for your childrens’ actions when riding in your Tribe Bike. When carrying children, common sense rules of safe and responsible riding are imperative. Ensure children always remain seated, keep their arms and legs within the footprint of the bike and of course always wear an approved helmet.
Safety First
- Always wear an approved helmet when riding your bike, and follow the helmet manufacturer’s instructions for fit, use and care.
- Ensure all passengers, including children wear an approved helmet when riding on the bike or in the cargo box.
- Ensure children are secured on the rear rack using either a child seat or crew cab bars.
- Ensure pets and cargo are safely secured in crates, baskets or pet carriers.
- Cargo bikes handle differently to regular bikes, take it easy, particularly while getting used to the bike.
- Always use the kick stand when stopping your bike and loading/unloading children or cargo.
- When loading children onto the bike, ensure you are holding the bike upright, do not rely solely on the kickstand.
- Do not leave the battery on the bike when parking the bike in the sun for long periods of time, particularly in summer.
- Before each ride, ensure:
- The brakes are fully functional and adjusted properly.
- Tyre pressure is correct.
- Seat belts are functional and adjusted properly.
- There is no noise or burr from the gears, wheels or steering system.
Assembling the Tribe Evamos Cargo Bike
The following steps provide an overview of how to assemble your Evamos Longtail from Tribe Bikes. They are not a complete
or comprehensive manual of all aspects of assembly, maintenance, and repair, which involve specialized tools and skills. We recommend you consult a certified, reputable bike mechanic to assist in the assembly, repair, and maintenance of your
Tribe Evamos.
WARNING: Incorrect assembly, maintenance, or use of your Evamos Longtail can cause component or performance failure, loss of control, serious injury, or death. Even if you’re an experienced bike rider, you must read and understand the entire manual and any documentation provided for subcomponents or accessories before riding. If you are not sure you have the experience, skills, and tools to correctly perform all assembly steps in the manual and the assembly video, consult a local, certified, reputable bike mechanic.

1. Unpack the bike
Open the bike box and, with the help of another person capable of safely lifting a heavy object, remove
the Evamos from the bike box, placing it upright against a solid surface (eg a wall), or having the second person temporarily hold it upright.
Remove the small boxes from the bottom of the bike box and carefully set out the contents.
Carefully cut the cable ties holding the front wheel and fender on and remove these.
Do not remove all the packaging off the bike yet.

2. Install the Kickstand
Using the provided 6mm allen key, remove the bolts from the base of the kickstand. Snap the kickstand back to the ‘open’ position (be careful not to get your fingers stuck in the spring!).
Align the kickstand to the bottom of the bike, ensuring it is aligned as per the image below. Install the bolts through the frame into the kickstand and tighten to 20nM torque.
Now that the kickstand is installed the bike can self support. Ensure the kickstand is in the ‘open’ position, and stand the bike upright.





3. Remove all packaging from the bike
Carefully remove all foam packaging from the bike. The tape holding the packaging on should easily break when pulled.
The keys for the battery are cable tied to the saddle, ensure you place these in a safe place for later.
A small box is attached to the handlebars, carefully open this box and remove contents.



4. Install the handlebars
Using the provided 4mm allen key, remove the 4 bolts from the stem.
Line up the centre of the handlebars with the front of the stem and re-install the front stem plate. Start by installing the top bolts, leaving 1-2mm of thread visible between the two pieces of thread, install the other two bolts.
When lining up the handlebars, ensure the lines in the are in the middle of the bolts, this will ensure the handlebars are centred.
Gradually tighten each bolt, ensuring all 4 bolts are of similar tightness before going around and tightening another turn. Tighten to 6nM.
Note: This step is easiest if one person holds the handlebars in position while the other tightens the bolts.



5. Install the front wheel
Remove all packaging from the front wheel.
Remove the packing spacer block from the brake caliper and the packing spacer from the fork.
Take the Axel Skewer from the parts block. Unscrew the end off of it. Be careful not to lose the cone springs.
Have a friend lift the front of the bike, while you install the wheel into the fork dropout. Be careful to line up the Disk Rotor with the brake, ensuring the brake pad sits either side of the rotor before sliding the wheel in. When installing the front wheel, also add the front fender, ensuring that the metal tab on the fender is at the front of the fork.
Install the Axel skewer with the quick release on the rotor side. Add the cone spring (small side facing in) and the thumb nut on the other side of the wheel. Tighten the quick release skewer by holding the thumb nut and spin the quick release lever clockwise as far as you can. Once tightened as far as you can, loosen it by half a turn and close the quick release lever. It should be tight to close the quick release lever.
WARNING: The Quick Release Lever should be tight for safe riding.



6. Install the front fender
Detach the deflopilator spring.
Using the 4mm allen key and 10mm spanner remove the long bolt through the fork.
Slide the fender back to the fork and add bolt back through the fork, first going through the metal mounting tab on the fender.
NOTE: If you are not installing the front rack, at this point also add the Front Light mount to the bolt at the front of the fork.
Re-add and tighten the 10mm nut, ensuring the deflopilator spring mount is at the top. The front rack mount has some slide up and down, install it roughly in the centre of this slide. Re-install the deflopilator spring.
Using the 4mm allen key, remove the fender stay bolts from the fork and install the fender stays. At this point you can also remove the bolts with the 5mm allen key above the fender stays. These bolts are not required.
Ensure there is no rub of the fender stays on the front wheel. If there is the fender stays can be bent slightly outwards to eliminate wheel rub.



7. Install the display
The rubber mounts and bolts for the display are in a bag inside the box that was attached to the bike frame.
The mounts have a left and right side, Open the display clamps and add these.
Screw the display onto the handlebars using the 3mm allen key and the two larger bolts provided in bag.
Wrap the controller a couple of times around the bars to take the slack in the cable. Use the small bolt and 2.5mm allen key to tighten.



8. Install the cable wrap
Take the cable wrap from the small box with parts and wrap the cable from below the top zip tie to the bottom zip tie. Cut away any excess, be careful not to cut any cables.
9. Install the pedals
Using the provided tube of grease, lightly grease the threads on each pedal.
Hand tighten each pedal on the crank. The right pedal threads clockwise (normal screw direction) and the left pedal threads counter-clockwise. Each pedal is labeled either R for Right or L for Left. The pedal should screw on easily, if there is any resistance back it off and re-screw. Be careful not to cross thread the pedal.
Once you can no longer hand tighten the pedals, use the provided 15mm spanner to further tighten them. Tighten to 35nM of torque or as tight as you can with the provided wrench.
WARNING: Loose pedals are dangerous, ensure you tighten pedals as much as you can.
Wipe away any grease that has squeezed out.

10. Grease the seatpost
Loosen the quick release seat post clamp and remove the seatpost. Using the provided tube of grease apply a light film of grease to the seatpost. Reinstall the seatpost and tighten the clamp. Ensure that the seatpost does not move when the saddle is twisted. If it does, open the quick release connector, apply an additional turn to tighten it and re-close the clamp.
11. Install the Bell
Using a philips head screw driver (not provided), remove the bolt from the bell, place it over the handlebars and reinstall the bell, on the right side where it is comfortable to reach.

12. Inflate Tyres
Using a Schrader valve (car valve style), inflate your tyres to the recommended levels on the tyre sidewall. We recommend a tyre pressure of 50psi for safe and comfortable riding.
13. Install the front rack
Installation of the front rack is an optional step. If you do not wish to carry cargo on the front rack and have not purchased a front rack, you can choose to skip this step.
- Remove the front rack from its packaging.
- Using the 4 short bolts and washers, attach the front rack to the frame using the 5mm allen key. Tighten to 5nM.
- Carefully unplug the front light using the quick release.
- Using the 4mm allen key and 8mm spanner, undo the bolt holding the mount onto the front light. Discard the mount and the bolt, but keep the nut and serrated washer.
- Using short bolt with the 4mm allen key add the light to the mount at the front of the rack. Use the serrated washer and nut to secure.
- Take the light extension cable from the box and add to the light and the light cable. Ensure that the arrows line up when plugging the extension cable in.
- Cable tie the light cable to the underside of the rack. Carefully cut the cable ties using a sharp pair of scissors or flat snips. Push the remaining cable back into the bike frame.



Adjusting your Tribe Evamos for safe and comfortable riding
The following steps are critical for your comfort and safety, and must be performed before your first bike ride. We recommend
that you consult a bike fitting professional such as a reputable bike mechanic who specializes in bike fit.
Adjusting the seat angle and position
Many riders will prefer the seat to be roughly parallel to the ground, with its horizontal position in
the middle or slightly to the front of the range marked on the seat rails. To change the angle and horizontal position of
the seat:
- Use a 6mm allen key to loosen the seat adjustment bolt.
- Move the seat forward or back on the rails and up and down along the angle adjuster to find preferred position.
- Hold the seat and tighen with a 6mm allen key to 10nM torque.
Adjusting the seat height
Ideal seat height allows the rider to, when seated, place the ball of their foot on the pedal at the lowest position and have a slight bend in their knee.
Many riders prefer to ride their Evamos with a slightly lower seat height so they can more easily reach the ground when stopped. This may offer a safer and more comfortable experience.
Adjust the seat height by opening the quick release lever and moving the seat to the desired height. Close the lever, ensuring the front of the seat is parallel with the top tube. After you have closed the quick release lever, ensure that the seat does not move side to side when twisted. If it does, open the lever, and adjust the lever tension by turning the adjustment nut opposite the lever.
Adjusting the stem and handlebars
The Tribe Evamos is equipped with an adjustable stem. Using a 6mm allen key, loosen the stem, and move the position up or down. Retighten the stem to 10nM torque.
Using a 4mm allen key, loosen the front stem bolts slightly, move the handlebars up or down, ensure they remain centred and re-tighten to 6nM.
Riding a longtail cargo bike
If you can ride a bike, you can ride a longtail! However, there’s a few things you should keep in mind when riding your Evamos Longtail.
- Take your first ride in a quiet area with no passengers. Turn off the electric assist, or put it on its lowest setting, and familiarise yourself with the bike before riding with children, pets or in traffic.
- When loading kids on and off the rear rack, ensure you hold the bike upright and do not rely solely on the kickstand to hold the bike up.
- When carrying kids and cargo take corners at a slower speed.
- Do not overload the front rack, it should take no more than 20 kilograms. Overloading the front rack will affect handling.
- Do not overload the bike. The bike is rated to carry riders of up to 120kg and cargo of up to 80kg.
Riding an e-bike
Your Tribe Evamos is equipped with a 250w mid drive electric assist motor. These operate by sensing how much pressure (also known as torque) you are putting through the pedals, and automatically kicks in when it needs to. Most riders get comfortable with electric assist very quickly but there are a few things to keep in mind.
Here’s a few tips to get the most out of the electronics on an e-bike:
Use your gears
It’s easy to forget about your gears when the electric assist is doing the hard work for you. However it is important that you use your gears as you would without electric assist, there’s 3 reasons why this is important.
- To prolong the life of your motor: Taking off in top gear is akin to taking off in your car in 5th gear. A lot of stress is put through the electric motor, so it should be avoided.
- So your battery lasts longer: The electric assist will be doing more work when kicking in at low speeds in a high gear. This will drain your battery quicker.
- To avoid ‘jolts’ on takeoff: If taking off in a high gear you will feel a ‘jolt’ as the electric assist kicks in. This can be dangerous particularly if you are trying to navigate a tight section of path or road. By starting in a low gear, you will avoid this jolt.
Change your electric assist based on your needs
Your Tribe Bike comes equipped with 5 electric assist levels. You may be tempted to put it in level 5 (the highest level there is) and be done with it. There’s no problems if you do this, but it will result in your battery running out quicker. Plus, you’ll miss out on one of the great benefits of cycling, fitness!
We dial our electric up and down as we need it. For flat cycleways, an assist of 1-2 is comfortable, for traffic light take-offs we might crank it up to level 4, and for steep hills we’ll call on the maximum amount of assist.
Use your first few rides to get a sense for the assist levels, start low and work your way up. It won’t take long to get a feel for what works for you.
The Bike
It’s time to get into the nuts and bolts of you new cargo bike. We’ve split this into 3 sections, The cockpit, the electronics & the cargo rack
The Cockpit
Brakes
Your Tribe Bike is equipped with front and rear brakes. As per Australian standards these are controlled with the left lever for the rear brake, and right lever for the front brake.
Gears
Your bike is equipped with an 8 speed shifter. The top lever shifts the gears down (easier pedalling). The bottom lever shifts the gears up (harder pedalling).
Electronics
This section covers the electronics and battery of the Tribe Evamos Longtail.
Getting Started
First, ensure your battery is fully charged. The battery is fully charged when the light on the charging cable turns from Red to Green. You can also check the battery level on the battery itself by pressing the small battery button. Green bars indicates a full charge.

Turn your battery on using the on/off button on the top of the battery.
Slide your battery into the battery housing, push it all the way down until you hear a click. Turn the key 180 degrees to ensure your battery is locked in position. Your bike comes with 2 keys, keep one in a safe spot, we do not supply spare keys if you lose them. Remove the key from your bike when riding to avoid damage to the battery terminal and/or personal injury.
Turn the electric assist on at the control panel by pressing and holding the power button.
Your electric assist is ready to go! refer to the next section for what options are available on the control panel.
Note that your display will turn off automatically after 5 minutes and the battery will turn off after 30 mins.

Control Panel
Special Functions:
- Clear Trip Meter – Press the “i” button twice. The screen will show “tc”, press the plus button to choose “y”, press “i” again. The trip meter will be cleared.
- Press the “-” button to show “Walk” Press and hold “-” button for 3 seconds to enable walk assist mode. This will move your bike forward at 6km/h. Release to stop.
- Turn the lights on by holding the light button.
Walk Assist
Your bike comes with Walk Assist, which is a handy feature to help push your bike if you need to get off and walk it, eg to push your bike up your driveway. With Walk Assist enabled the electric motor will push the bike at 6km/h without you needing to pedal.
To enable walk assist, continually press the “-” button until the “Walk” label shows. press and hold the ‘-‘ button for 3 seconds. Walk assist will automatically disengage when you stop pressing the +/- button.
Only use Walk assist when you have dismounted the bike.
Lights
Your bike comes with a front and rear light.
The front and rear light are controlled by pressing and holding the light button.
Battery Care
For longevity of your battery and safe operation, there’s some important things you must do:
- Remove the battery from the bike when parked in the sun for long periods of time. The heat from the sun can damage your battery and even cause it to explode. It is important that you do not leave the battery in the sun.
- Turn off the battery at the switch when not using your bike.
- Do not leave the battery on charge for more than 8 hours. Leaving the battery on charge for excessive periods of time can damage the battery.
- Charge your battery regularly. Modern Lithium Ion batteries do not need to be fully run down before you re-charge them. In fact regular ‘top up’ charges are better for your battery, just like how you charge your mobile phone.
Carrying Cargo
It was likely the need to carry cargo, that encouraged you to buy a Tribe Bike! Here’s what you need to know about using your carrying cargo
Weight limits
The total maximum payload includes the weight of the rider, as well as clothing, riding gear, accessories and cargo.
- Total maximum payload: 200kg
- Total rear rack max payload: 80kg
- Total rider max payload: 120kg
- Kickstand maximum payload: 50kg
- Front rack maximum payload: 20kg
- Side Boards maximum payload: 20kg per side.
Safely carrying cargo
The following provides important safety tips for the safe operation of the Tribe Evamos when carrying cargo.
- Cargo should be loaded as low as possible to keep the bike’s centre of gravity low and improve stability, but cargo should not interfere with moving components or the ground.
- Ensure cargo loads are properly secured and periodically check that nothing has loosened.
- Hill climbing, steering and braking will all be affected when cargo is loaded on your bike, so plan your routes accordingly.
Safely carrying children
The following provides important safety tips for the safe operation of the Tribe Evamos when carrying children.
- Hold onto the bike when loading children on and off the bike.
- Never exceed the payload capacity of the rear rack which is 80kg on the Tribe Evamos.
- Do not allow passengers to sit sideways or backward on the rear rack.
- Do not allow passengers to stand or kneel on the rear rack or sideboards.
- Check child seats, clothing and cargo for items that could dangle and interfere with wheels or other moving parts.
- Ensure that passengers are safely seated before riding.
- Ensure that the rider and passengers are wearing a properly fitted and approved helmet.
- Carry children in an approved child seat and if possible use the Crew Cab bars for added safety.
Storing & Securing your bike
Storing your bike
Your bike should be stored undercover, preferably indoors.
Damage incurred as a result of leaving your bike uncovered in the elements will not be covered under warranty.
Securing your bike
Don’t compromise on security! Cheap locks are easily broken or cut by thieves.
The best locks for bikes a ‘U locks’, secured to the bike on the down tube, below the seat stays and secured to a steel pole.
If you prefer a cable lock for low risk situations, go with a reputable brand, such as On Guard, available in our store.
Mechanical Safety Checks
All bikes require maintenance. At a minimum we recommend the following checks and maintenance be carried out:
First Service
Some argue the most important service you can complete is the first one. After your first month or so of riding, your bike will have ‘bedded in’. As a result some parts need to be tightened and adjusted for safe operation. Don’t skip the first service. We recommend this be undertaken by a professional, see below for our network of Mobile Bike Mechanics.
Before every ride
The following should be checked before every ride:
- Tyre Pressure: Ensure tyres are properly inflated. All tyres lose pressure over time, so low tyre pressure does not necessarily mean you have a puncture.
- Check that front and rear brakes are properly functioning, adjust if necessary.
- Check that gears are shifting properly, adjust if necessary.
- Check all lights are functioning if riding in the dark.
- Ensure there’s no strange noises coming from the bike.
Every 4 weeks or 200kms, whatever comes first
The following should be checked or completed every 4 weeks or 200km, whichever comes first:
- Lubricate your chain.
- Wipe down and clean frame.
- Check for loose spokes. Tighten if necessary.
- Ensure your wheels are true. True wheels if necessary.
- Check cranks are tight. Tighten if necessary.
- Clean out the cargo box.
Every 6 months or 1,000kms, whatever comes first
The following should be completed every 6 months or 1,000kms, whichever comes first:
- Check Brake and Brake pads. Your brake pads may be due for replacement, or your brakes may need some more complex adjustments made.
- Replace brake and gear cables.
- Check your tyre tread. It may be time to replace your tyres.
- Examine your chain and replace if worn or stretched.
- Check and tighten all bolts and screws.
